What's New at MCA this quarter is a review of what's new in the basement window lines offered by our three window suppliers: Kewanee, Monarch, and Boman-Kemp. Although we are going to spotlight one or two products from each manufacturer, be aware that MCA carries their complete range of windows and window-related products.

The products we're highlighting are driven by the recent trend among new construction homeowners to create their basements to be suitable for more usable living space in the future. Their demands have led to the creation and adoption of the new IRC-2000 code. This code sets standards for natural light, ventilation, and egress through windows and wells, among other things. Call MCA for more information on this code. They can send also send you a summary of it.

Kewanee Corporation's ADVANTAGE window is one such product heavily influenced by the IRC-2000 code. This window has a patent-pending feature allowing both sashes to swing in like shutters. This feature creates more physical space for egress this smaller so that the less costly ADVANTAGE window meets the same code requirements as the common 48'' x 35'' sliding-only sash window. This swing-in feature also allows for ease of cleaning without removing the window. As an extra bonus, this window's 3/4'' insulated glass has an R-1.96 rating keeping the basement warmer.

The broad line of windows from Monarch also meets the IRC-2000 egress code. MCA particularly likes their “Pour in Place“ heavy gauge galvanized steel picture window frame. It not only provides an extremely strong,

heat-welded, galvanized frame it's also an easy-to-install unit with pre-punched nail holes for installing in wood forms and tie slots for easy hanging on aluminum forms. The frame is available in sizes ranging from 2' 2'' to 6' x 5''. And Monarch's V-4 Single Slider Insert is the perfect window for this frame. The glass is insulated to save energy and the sash is designed to provide an easy lift out feature, making cleaning a cinch. The window/frame unit has four slide locks to provide better air-tightness and increased security. And these windows come standard with easy-to-remove exterior screens.

The white-on-white galvanized steel bucks and wells from Boman-Kemp also meet or exceed the IRC code and the needs of homeowners and contractors alike. Their white baked-on finish not only looks attractive it also increases the natural light reflected into basement rooms. The window insert is vinyl clad and insulated to keep energy costs low. The Easy-Buck jambs are slotted for wall ties and drilled for nails and the Easy-Well attaches to preinstalled fasteners located in the buck flange.

Whatever the future living space needs of your customers - MCA and their suppliers can make their dreams come true. Give us a call for more information.
