Picture this—Your Bobcat® or skid-steer is broken and you need it for a job next week? MCA can help you out in two ways.

  1. Now you can rent a Thomas HLS 173 series skid-steer mini-tractor at MCA. They’re among the strongest and toughest loaders in the business. “We bought three of these in January and they have been out on job sites almost every day,” says Ed Grobelny, Director of Operations at MCA. “Our customers like the big capacity for loading …about 1700 lbs.” Besides the load, the Thomas skid-steers have a “high lift” feature with an 11-foot boom pin height that means you can get big loads over the top of all your toughest loading conditions.
  2. MCA can now repair your own Bobcat® or skid-steer. Just give Doug Neumann a call at 847-428-3333 or e-mail us at: Repairs@MultipleConcrete.com

Are fiber and welded wire mesh (WWM) equal in strength? —JG

Dear JG,

Well, there really isn’t an answer to that question. You see, each product does different things. And different people prefer one over the other. Sort of like do you prefer cheese or pepperoni pizza? Let’s take a look!

Fiber, or fibrous-reinforced concrete, manufacturers say that their product protects concrete from early plastic shrinkage cracking and increases impact resistance of the surface while it improves the durability of the concrete.

WWM is a structural element in concrete that handles stresses due to shrinkage. It also resists bending stresses due to applied loads during and after the concrete cracks. And, it restrains the concrete from developing wide and displaced cracking (see the WRI’s TF 702705, “Innovative Ways to Reinforce Slabs on Ground).

So, our suggestion is to decide what you need the product to do, decide which you prefer and make your own educated decision.
