What do you look for when you come to an MCA store or call us over the phone? Chances are you're looking for courteous and knowledgeable folks who can answer your questions and help you solve problems.

At the Palatine store Terry, Marty, and Rob are there for you!

Marty's been in the construction industry for over 35 years as a concrete floor finisher. His work has literally taken him around the world installing and finishing industrial floors for companies in England, Italy, Germany, Canada, American Somoa, and Mexico. He has known Mike Longfield for over 25 years and was glad to hang up his travelin' shoes last year and come to work for MCA. When he's not helping customers he likes to spend time with his wife, daughters, and black Lab.

Growing up next door to Mike's niece and nephew in Lake Zurich, IL Terry has known the Longfield family for a long time, too! She started working at MCA about five years ago and spent some time in the office learning about the day-to-day operations before coming out to the order desk. She enjoys the interaction with customers so much she's decided to learn Spanish this fall. "I'll be able to understand customers' needs better," she says. Her two kitties and her husband keep life interesting during her "off" hours.

Rob is the newest addition to the MCA team being hired this past summer. Before joining us, Rob worked in the printing and graphic arts business. He's also worked construction summer jobs from time to time. We're glad he's with us.

Terry, Rob and Marty say "thank you" to all MCA customers -- especially those who come through the Palatine store. "We enjoy seeing your faces and we look forward to answering your concrete questions!"

Wow, that's a lot of questions.

First, concrete curing chemicals have changed since 1999 when the Federal Clean Air Act began to regulate the amount of solvent-based formulas containing large quantities of air-polluting VOCs (volatile organic compounds). This new law now requires MCA's curing compound manufacturers to produce higher standards of curing and sealing compounds at a minimum 25% solids for solvent-based systems. For the price conscious buyers we offer a variety of water-based curing compounds (approximate 15% solids) that meet all your curing demands. At MCA we've got you covered.

As to when and why you should use concrete curing compounds -- that's easy! Liquid concrete curing compounds are typically applied to concrete when the concrete can support the weight of the workforce. Most of the time the bleed water has gone and the final finish is completed.

Curing compounds help maintain the moisture content and temperature needed for cement to hydrate. As the concrete dries, hydration stops. Curing compounds help prevent early moisture loss. Proper curing helps in the development of the physical properties of the concrete like compressive and tensile strength. In addition, properly cured concrete is more resistant to chemicals, freeze-thaw, and wear and rebar corrosion.

Our question to our customers is this: HOW CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO USE CURING COMPOUNDS?
